"People start to heal the moment they feel heard"

CHERYL RICHARDSON

About Me

Lola Opacic Lunot, MSW, RSW

I am a registered social worker with close to 20 years of experience; bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise in various areas of life such as addictions, mental health, grief, loss, spousal conflict, domestic abuse, child abuse, trauma, blended families, parenting, and supporting families of individuals experiencing substance use and mental health crises.

Throughout my career, I have dedicated several years to working in an Inner City school on the Downtown East side. My experience also includes roles with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, VACFSS, and various units in hospitals, including the ER, maternity, and acute care. Currently, I work in inpatient psychiatry, where I have been for over three years.

As a first-generation immigrant to Canada and having spent my teenage years as a refugee, I bring a unique perspective to my practice. My personal journey includes becoming a mother figure to two young boys in a blended family after marrying into a family where the boys lost their mother to breast cancer at a very young age. I understand the challenges of blended families and believe that they require hard work and extra support to be successful.

I believe in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and intersectional approach to counselling. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. The counselling approaches I utilize include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

Areas of Specialty:

  • Parenting/Blended Families

  • Mental Health and Addictions

  • Maternal Mental Health

  • Working with youth

  • Mental Health and Substance Use Family Support

  • Immigrant Issues

  • Systems Navigation

  • Supporting clients/families through MAiD (Medical Assistance In Dying)

  • Work with Indigenous Peoples (FNHA approved-direct billing offered)
